On our next exploration of Kempe Gowda’s storied Pettah we guide our guests through a layered landscape where devotion resistance and craft converge. The walk begins with a visit to one of Bengaluru’s most venerated temples—an institution intimately linked to the city’s famed Karaga festival a ritual tradition that has endured for centuries.
From there we wind our way through the narrow meandering lanes of the old quarter. Beneath the modern façades hidden monuments whisper of a past too often overlooked. Among the most striking stops is the site where the celebrated Mysore rockets were once manufactured—an innovation that would not only shape the wars of the late 18th century but in an unexpected echo leave its trace on the words of the American national anthem.
Our journey also leads us to a landmark tied to India’s struggle for independence and to the homes of silk weavers who continue to practice their age-old craft amidst the bustle of the metropolis. If time allows we pause to pay homage at the tombs of Sufi warriors martyrs of the Third Anglo-Mysore War in 1791 whose resting places still anchor a memory of sacrifice.
The walk concludes fittingly in the conviviality of the breakfast table at a legendary eatery.
