On the fourth of our walks through Kempe Gowda’s historic *Pettah*, we venture into one of the oldest and most fascinating quarters of Bengaluru, where centuries of history continue to unfold through its narrow, meandering lanes.

Our walk begins with a darshan at one of the city’s most beloved temples, intimately associated with Bengaluru’s celebrated Karaga festival. From here, we wander deeper into the Pettah, uncovering forgotten monuments, old neighbourhoods and stories concealed behind the façades of modern Bengaluru.

Along the way, we discover the remarkable story of Mysore’s rockets—military technology perfected under Tipu Sultan and manufactured in this very part of the city. We explore how these rockets travelled from the battlefields of Mysore to Britain, and ultimately influenced the technology that inspired the words of the American national anthem.

The walk then takes us to a site connected with India’s struggle for independence, before offering a glimpse into one of the Pettah’s enduring traditions: its silk-weaving community.

And, time permitting, we make a quiet visit to the (dargahs) tombs of Sufi warriors who were martyred during the Third Anglo-Mysore War of 1791, adding another, lesser-known chapter to the layered history of the neighbourhood.

This is a walk through a Bengaluru that is easy to miss—a city of temples and tombs, warriors and weavers, rockets and revolutionaries, where history survives in lanes, workshops and places of worship.

Come walk with us and discover the Pettah beyond the postcard. Spaces are limited, so book your place and join us for this journey into the hidden history of old Bengaluru.
