Naburn Lock, Explore Social Paddle - Relax, Unwind & Connect - YO19 4RU

Launch from Naburn Lock and enjoy a relaxed evening paddle upstream on the beautiful River Ouse before turning around and gently making your way back as the day begins to wind down.
This social paddle is all about getting out on the water, enjoying the river at an easy pace, and sharing the experience with like-minded paddlers. The route offers a peaceful stretch of river, scenic surroundings, and a chance to slow down and appreciate the changing light as evening approaches.
Designed with a friendly and social feel, this session is perfect for meeting other paddlers, chatting along the way, and being part of the Paddleboard Selby community. There's no pressure to perform or push hard—just an enjoyable paddle in good company.
After the paddle, there will be the opportunity to pop into Tea By The Lock for a drink and a slice of cake if you'd like to stay a little longer and continue the social side of the evening. The team at Tea By The Lock are happy for us to call in after our paddle, and customer toilet facilities are also available.
This session is not suitable for complete beginners. You should be confident paddling independently, able to control your board, and comfortable paddling against the current and keeping up with the group at an easy, steady pace.
If you're new to paddleboarding, we recommend joining one of our Introduction to Paddleboarding sessions first. If you'd like to build confidence and improve your skills, our Build Your Paddle Skills sessions are a great next step before joining a social paddle.
Being out on the water in the evening offers real, practical benefits:
• A simple way to switch off after work
• Gentle movement that doesn't feel like exercise
• Fresh air and time outdoors without needing a full day free
• A chance to connect with nature and other people
This isn't a coached session, but the group stays together and is safely supervised throughout by a qualified Paddle UK Paddleboard Coach. Everything is taken care of so you can turn up, relax, and enjoy your time on the river.
What you'll need (or can hire):
• Paddleboard
• Paddle
• Leash and quick-release belt
• Buoyancy aid
You're welcome to bring your own equipment, provided it's fit for purpose and checked beforehand by the coach. I can also help you get your equipment ready and inflate your board using an electric pump.
Please note that any valuables you bring, including car keys left with the coach during the session, are stored at your own risk. While every reasonable care will be taken, Paddleboard Selby cannot accept responsibility for any loss, damage, or theft.
