🤷♀️ Why Māmeido Cup?
Māmeido Cup is not like a regular tournament. Our Swiss-system format provides great benefits for participants:
🌱 Guaranteed number of fights (11-13) for everybody: The swiss-ranking system ensures that all participants will have the same number of fights throughout the weekend. We are aiming for a big event for ca. 200 participants, with SIX shiai-jo, which will allow every player to have between 11-13 shiai-fights across the weekend. That is almost the same as two full regular KO-tournaments for every participant.
🌱 Ensure fights against similar-level opponents: The swiss-system adjusts the fighter match-ups, accounting for everyone’s performance. After each round, competitors will be matched with opponents based on their previous results - good results will lead to increasingly stronger opponents (who were also winning so far), while losing a fight will mean the next opponent will also have a similar track record (with a similar amount of losses). This ensures, that fighters will face opponents of a similar level, making the experience more enjoyable and rewarding in terms of measuring one’s progress
🌱 Non-elimination supporting an open fighting style: Since no one gets eliminated, and everyone has the same number of fights, there is less risk from fighting in an open way compared to other Taikai. Fighters can test their skills without risking a very short Taikai, making this a perfect Taikai to truly test your shiai.
🌱 Great feedback and innovative solutions from the first edition: As part of a feedback form after previous editions, 86% of participants gave the event a 10/10 score, with 95% of participants scoring the event 9/10 or higher! One of the main reasons for the positive reception was the Mameido Player App - a mobile phone app where players are able to track their results live after each round, see their ranking, next opponents and shiai-jo location, etc.
🥇🥈🥉 Tournament structure & categories 🏆
There will be TWO seperate individual Taikai - one for Men, one for Women (i.e. no mixed-gender fights this year). Within each Taikai, all participants can face one another. The main prize will be the Open Rank Top 3 places, with additional sub-ranks based on age and grade calculated as well:
> Open rank - the main category
Subcategories calculated based on participant registration info:
> Youth age (15 - 24)
> Senior age (>= 40)
> Kyu grade
> Dan 1-3 grade
An additional Special "Most improved" Prize will be given to the person, which will have the best Open Ranking improvement between Saturday end-of-day to Sunday end-of-day!
🕒 Be quick to register! 🌟
Register for Māmeido Cup 2026 as soon as possible - in order to ensure high level of organization and a minimum 11-13 fights per person we will have to limit the number of participants. The registration will be open until 200-220 participants OR 4th of October.
