Myths & Mortals
About this Event
Exciting young tenor Itamar Hildesheim joins acclaimed pianist Jocelyn Freeman for a recital inspired by Clara Schumann's life and work. The programme pairs ballads and nocturnal songs with music she herself performed during her extensive concert tours in the UK. These journeys included a recital with Liza Lehmann in London in 1856, while a new commission by Emily Hazrati offers a contemporary response to the mythic and supernatural themes so cherished in the Romantic imagination. In honor of Clara's lifelong commitment to performing Robert Schumann's music, the second half reimagines the dramatic arc of his Fantasiestücke, Op. 12 through a sequence of songs mirroring the cycle's structure and emotional trajectory.
