The pews go dark, but for flickering candles, and for one night, The Union Baptist becomes somewhere else entirely, a room built for whispers, sideways glances, and music that doesn't say what it means. Join the Mystic Chamber Music Series on December 5th at 5:30 PM at the Union Baptist Church for “ The Masquerade Ball”, a concert that reveals the secrets hidden in some of the most beautiful music. Haydn opens with a trick: a quartet that lies to your face, false endings laid like tripwires, daring you to clap too soon. By the time the candles burn lowest, the last mask comes off: Tchaikovsky, writing in yearning too raw to fully disguise, even from himself. Some things can only be said from behind a mask.
