“myaamionki: The Place of the Miamis” will explore the history of the Miami Tribe of Oklahoma, their relationship with Miami University and their historic homelands, and the sovereign Miami Tribe today.Please note that registration will begin May 29. Call the Library at 937-746-2665 or stop by the circulation desk to register.
This event is for ages 16+.
Speaker Bio: Andrew Sawyer is the Education Outreach Specialist with the Myaamia Center at Miami University where he works with faculty, departments, and offices across campus to promote and share the work being done at the Myaamia Center. Prior to this he served as the Site Manager/Anthropologist at SunWatch Indian Village/Archaeological Park in Dayton, Ohio and as an Adjunct Instructor in Anthropology at the University of Dayton and Sinclair Community College. Before that he worked in Cultural Resource Management in the western US. He has degrees in Anthropology from Miami University and the University of Denver and is a past President, Trustee, and Chair of the Native American Concerns Committee for the Ohio Archaeological Council.
Co-sponsors of the event are Franklin Area Historical Society, Franklin, OH, the Carlisle Area Historical Society - Ohio, and the Franklin-Springboro Public Library.
