In the early 1990s, Houston’s Broadway Square stood at a crossroads. Like Broadway in cities across America, the street carried a name that symbolized ambition and culture—but in Houston, it became a battleground. As the Drug Task Force flooded the neighborhood, residents were surveilled, profiled, and branded as criminals. Yet in the midst of this tension, a new Black cultural movement began to flourish. Posse on Broadway chronicles this transformation, capturing the voices, memories, and resilience of a community fighting to define itself. At its core is the story of one resident who rose to become both the godfather and guiding light of the culture, leaving an imprint on Houston and beyond.
