About this Event

Named after Captain Charles Edward Faber of the Madras Engineers in 1845, a military engineer who oversaw the construction of a narrow winding road to the summit where a new signal station and flagstaff was located, Mount Faber stands 105 metres above sea level and overlooks Telok Blangah or "cooking pot bay" in Malay. In 1857, a mutiny among Indian sepoys prompted the construction of a fort equipped with two 13-inch mortars and two 56-pounder guns. Other ancillary amenities including storage tunnels, command centres, and encampments were later added before World War I and World War II.

Remnants of these military fortifications form part of My Mount Faber Heritage Tour, where participants can catch a glimpse of the secret reservoir and storage facilities which served Singapore well over the years. After the fort had ceased to function, public attractions including Mount Faber and Singapore Cable Car were opened in 1965 and 1974 respectively as Singapore attempted to convert the island from its history as a naval base to an island getaway.

This tour also includes an exclusive visit to the Danish Seaman Church, or the former Golden Bell Mansion, where Chinese revolutionary leader Sun Yat Sen had stayed for a night en route from Europe to China.
