My Meetings with Remarkable Trees

Tony’s talk will cover how he became involved with trees from a young age and included 43 years at Kew in the arboretum.

It will be illustrated with slides of many of the remarkable trees he has come across over the years. These include some at Kew Gardens, where he and his team managed over 14,000 trees; others are from plant collecting expeditions all over the world, including South Korea, Taiwan, the Russian Far East, China and Japan, to rebuild Kew’s collection after the loss of around 700 trees during the infamous hurricane of 1987.

Tony has received many awards during his distinguished career, including the Royal Horticultural Society's Associate of Honour, the Victoria Medal of Honour and the Arboricultural Association Lifetime Achievement Award. He was appointed MBE in 2019. He is also the author of several books, including Remarkable Trees.

This event will be held at Queen Charlotte Hall, Richmond & Hillcroft Adult Community College, Parkshot, Richmond TW9 2RD on Thursday 12 March at 7:30pm. Doors open at 7:00pm with wine and soft drinks available.

Free for Richmond Society members in person and online, but places cannot be assured without booking a ticket in advance. A Zoom link will be emailed to members shortly before the meeting. Non-members welcome to attend in person for £7.
