Another save the date! Point Defiance AAZK will be hosting a screening of the documentary My Grandfather: the Zookeeper on February 3rd, 2026 at the Grand Cinema in Tacoma. Doors open at 7:00 PM and the show starts at 7:30 PM.Tickets will be $20 and will be sold at the door only; proceeds will benefit Point Defiance AAZK’s hosting of the 2026 AAZK National Conference.
The film’s creator, Josiah Olmstead, tells the story of his grandfather Dick Sweeney, who was one of the seven founding members of the American Association of Zoo Keepers, interwoven with the history of the animal care profession as it has evolved over the past 60 years. It is incredibly moving - there is also a brief cameo by Suki the elephant!
