About this Event
The Region 5 Climate Adaptation and Resilience Taskforce is dedicated to leading a whole of community effort to build climate resilience by increasing climate literacy and encouraging risk-informed decision making. To that end, the taskforce is sponsoring a field trip to the Stickney Water Reclamation Plant.
The Stickney Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) is one of seven wastewater treatment facilities owned and operated by the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD). The Stickney WRP is one of the largest wastewater treatment facilities in the world. It serves residents in the central part of Chicago as well as 46 other communities within a 260-square-mile-area. In order to prepare for climate change, adaptations are being completed today as part of the MWRD Climate Action Plan. The MWRD staff works around the clock to protect the water environment, mitigate flooding, manage waterway elevations, and keeping operations moving at its seven water reclamation plants, to include the Stickney WRP.
Registration is limited to the first 25 individuals, please register after obtaining permission from your supervisor. After you register we will contact you with information about carpooling. MWRD will also require a waiver and a copy of your id.
