When: Saturday 8th February 2024
Meeting times: 1015/1030 for 1045 start
Meeting point: Car park/Toilets – Cwm Porth, Ystradfellte, Aberdare, CF44 9JF
What Three Words: searches.unique.tweed
If the car park is full, an alternative will be given along the lane, you will be able to walk back to the meeting point from there. Alternative car park will be cash only – £5, I advise bringing cash and card as a backup (Cost may have increased).
Route: Approx 5.5 miles/307m elevation route in waterfall country, taking in views of 4 spectacular waterfalls, up close and personal. This route is waymarked but will be led by an MWAT walk leader who is familiar with the area. We will plan to stop halfway for a picturesque picnic as a group.
Pace will be determined by the group and will stop regularly for the waterfalls and picturesque points for photos and views. (Estimate time 3 – 4 hours)
Caution: Waterfalls and caves are dangerous and must be treated with caution, especially with children.
Paths are steep, slippy, rocky, narrow and have unguarded drops
Water at this time of year will be cold, fast flowing & deep, and must not be entered.
Weather can change quickly and conditions will become more hazardous.
Equipment: A sturdy pair of boots, decent walking attire (No denim), poles if required, rucksack with any medication and warm kit, Waterproofs, Hat, Sun cream, Insect repellant, gloves, money, picnic and plenty of drinking water.
Traffic planning: Please allow extra time when traveling on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road – currently overnight closure and day time speed limits/traffic – Updates will be sent if there’s a weekend closure in place for this particular weekend).
Disclaimer: You will be walking at your own risk, Men Walking And Talking take no responsibility for illness or injury, but will do our utmost to assist if and when required. Please be considerate of the countryside code and respectful of others, and remember this is open to families of all ages and abilities.
