About this Event

Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District (MVT CID) is pleased to announce the launch of DC History Center’s Class Action at the MVT Photo Walk, an outdoor extension of the museum exhibit now on display at the MVT Photo Walk along the 400 block of K Street NW and in Prather’s Alley.

This one's for the star students! On Saturday, July 18 from 11am-12:30pm take a deeper dive into Class Action at the MVT Photo Walk with a free guided tour led by Deputy Director of the DC History Center Anne McDonough. Participants will meet at 450K Apartments (450 K Street NW) before setting off on a guided walk through time chronicling pivotal moments in Federal education policy – from the antebellum period to the 2000s – through the eyes of everyday District schoolchildren. Along the way, Anne will point out interesting quirks in the photos making up the 17-frame timeline and provide insights pulled from the full Class Action exhibit currently on display at the historic Carnegie Library (801 K Street NW).
After K Street, the tour will head down Prather's Alley where participants will be joined by community historian and proud fourth-generation Washingtonian Marion Woodfork Simmons who was the Sousa Junior High Class of 1976 Valedictorian and can be found in the panoramic photo tiled on the western wall of Prather's Alley. Marion will share her personal memories of being a student in Washington, DC during America's Bicentennial celebrations as well as her experience working with the DC History Center to donate her uncle's Cadet Corps uniform to the Class Action exhibit. After the tour there will be time to cool down and continue with free flowing conversation back at 450K Apartments.
And for all the overachievers in the class looking for a little extra credit: Anne will lead anyone who's interested to the Carnegie Library to explore the full Class Action exhibit at 1pm.

Support for this exhibit provided by ANC 6E, special thanks to 450K Apartments for providing meeting space for this event.
