For the MVAS March General Meeting, John Graham, a long-time member of the MVAS, will give the main presentation titled “An Update on T Coronae Borealis with a Brief Introduction to Variable Stars”. SUMMARY:
For nearly 2 years, monthly updates have been given on the status of T Coronae Borealis (T CrB), a recurring nova in the Northern Crown. During this program, the history of T CrB will be reviewed, and why we are keeping an eye on it. Along the way, a brief introduction to variable stars will be given along with how to observe them visually and with your camera or smart telescope.
JOHN'S GRAHAM'S BIO
John is a long-time member of the MVAS and is a lifelong amateur astronomer getting his start in the early 1960s. He joined the MVAS in 1976 and was part of the second group of volunteers that worked to establish and operate the John Bryan State Park Observatory. Although John is currently known for owning quite a number of mostly vintage telescopes, he spent over 40 years as an active amateur telescope maker and built over two dozen telescopes before buying his first telescope. He even taught telescope making classes in the original Apollo Observatory when it was a separate facility associated with the Dayton Museum of Natural History.
=========================================
On the second Friday of every month, the MVAS has its General Meeting OPEN to ALL (i.e., all its members AND THE PUBLIC). No cost to attend. We gather to listen, discuss, and learn about all things related to amateur astronomy from each other.
Our meetings primarily consist of a short business portion in which the Society's happenings are discussed. The main part of the meeting will be a presentation aimed at educating attendees some new aspect of amateur astronomy, general astronomy, space exploration, or science in general.
