For the MVAS February General Meeting, Dr. Wes Ryle, the resident astronomer at the Cincinnati Observatory, will give the main presentation titled βThe Chicxulub Impactβ. Here is a quick summary:"The mystery of the extinction of the dinosaurs was a long-standing problem in paleontology. More than three quarters of plant and animal species were wiped off the face of the Earth in a relatively short geologic time. The asteroid impact theory for the mass extinction was put forth by Walter Alvarez and his father, Luis Walter Alvarez in the 1970s and has gained increased support in the decades since. Join us as we discuss the catastrophic collision that changed the world 66 million years ago."
=============================
On the second Friday of every month, the MVAS has its General Meeting OPEN to ALL (i.e., all its members AND THE PUBLIC). No cost to attend. We gather to listen, discuss, and learn about all things related to amateur astronomy from each other.
Our meetings primarily consist of a short business portion in which the Society's happenings are discussed. The main part of the meeting will be a presentation aimed at educating attendees some new aspect of amateur astronomy, general astronomy, space exploration, or science in general.
