For our first concert of Musique du Jour Presents’ 2026 season, we are exploring the incredible life and legacy of a remarkable woman of music history: Sara Levy Itzig (1761–1854). She was a key figure in Berlin’s cultural life whose musical interests connected many of the most influential composers of the 18th and early 19th centuries– including JS, CPE and WF Bach, Haydn, and her great-nephew and niece: Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn. Come learn more about her story and hear works inspired by the woman who changed classical music history! These are string quartets with a story. Performed on period instruments. Performers include: Anna Okada and Brandon Vance, violins; Page Smith, cello; and Lindsey Strand-Polyak, viola.
Works Include: Quartet selections by Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel (H277) and Felix Mendelssohn (Op. 81 no. 4), Johann Gottlieb Janitsch Quartet in g minor, Wilhelm Friedman Bach Viola Duo in G Major (F61 no. 1), and Haydn String Quartet Op. 20 no. 2.
