With music and lyrics by Sherman Edwards and a book by Peter Stone, the show is set in the summer of 1776, when the nation stands on the brink of declaring independence, but only if the founders can overcome their differences and unite. The action follows John Adams of Massachusetts, Benjamin Franklin of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson of Virginia as they strive to convince the members of the Second Continental Congress to vote for independence from British rule by signing the Declaration of Independence. โ1776โ is a funny, insightful and compelling musical drama with a striking score and legendary book. The show is directed for MAR by David Halliwell with music direction by Andrew Gadwah.

Travers and the classic Walt Disney film, this dazzling musical follows the magical, mysterious and โpractically perfectโ nanny Mary Poppins. Once she arrives at the Banks household, she uses a mix of whimsy, discipline and enchantment to help the family reconnect. The score features the beloved Sherman Brothersโ songs from the movie, along with additional music and lyrics by George Stiles and Anthony Drewe, and a book by Julian Fellowes. Kate Kovacs helms the production for MAR, joined by music director Vincent Fontenelli and choreographer Melissa Arizzi.
1776 and MARY POPPINS are presented by special arrangement with Music Theatre International (mtishows.com).

Performances take place on the Richter grounds consecutive Saturday mornings July 11 through August 1. Shows include โThe Wind in the Willows,โ โRapunzel,โ โThe Three Little Pigsโ and the story of young local Revolutionary War heroine Sybil Ludington, among other engaging tales.
