Musical Ethnography: A Journey Through Soundscapes of the Gulf

This event will be a bilingual lecture performance led by artist, composer and writer Hasan Hujairi. It’ll explore the seafaring music of the UAE and the Gulf: tracing traditional songs of pearl divers, fishermen, and sailors whilst highlighting the enduring influences of East African, West Asian, and South Asian cultures in contemporary Emirati folk music. The session will feature soundbites, videos, and a curated playlist, allowing audiences to immerse themselves in the musical heritage of the region.
