Music has the power to move the senses and transform emotions. Over the past decade Champion REIT's art project the Musica del Cuore concert series has brought exhilarating performances to Three Garden Road a landmark in Central Hong Kong. As 2025 unfolds Musica del Cuore celebrates its 10th anniversary marking not only a significant milestone but also a new beginning. Since 2015 the series has supported the development of countless young musicians and promoted the transmission and appreciation of classical music. This year's theme "Beyond Senses" underlines the profound impact of music.
This year's concerts feature a stellar line-up of established musicians and rising stars each showcasing their distinctive musical artistry. Highlights from the younger generation include pianist Dr Zhang Yue winner of the 2019 Chautauqua Piano Competition; Rhythmie Wong whose album was critically acclaimed by Radio France; Jason Wong winner of the Asian Chopin International Piano Competition; Alvina Yang a postgraduate student at the Royal Academy of Music; clarinettist Alfred Yuen mentored by Lorenzo Iosco; and pianist Pak-yu Kwok winner of the 2021 Chopin Avenue International Piano Competition. The programme also features the Cong Quartet Hong Kong's only full-time string quartet winners of the 2022 Virtuoso & Belcanto Chamber Music Competition and ensemble-in-residence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.
The list of distinguished musicians includes acclaimed performers such as cellist Siwon Park winner of the 1997 Artist International Competition; baritone Dr Issac Droscha who has performed with numerous American opera companies; Dr Natalia Tokar one of Russia's most esteemed pianists with extensive experience at the Mariinsky Theatre; and pianist Dr Mary Wu a winner "Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection" of Hong Kong and winner of the 2010 Hong Kong Arts Development Award for Best Artist (Music). This year Musica del Cuore not only continues its mission to provide a platform for musical talent but also harnesses the transformative power of music to bring joy and inspiration to urban life. Through the emotive power of music it weaves together emotions individuality and stories perpetuating the rich tradition of classical music.
Opening Concert on 10 January: A Musical Duel of Masters
The centenary celebrations will begin with an opening concert on 10 January featuring a duo performance by cellist Siwon Park and pianist Helen Cha. Born in Seoul South Korea Siwon Park won the Artist International Competition in 1997 and is a graduate of both the Juilliard School and the Manhattan School of Music. Currently a member of the Hong Kong Sinfonietta she is affectionately known as "big sister" among ensemble members. Helen Cha one of Hong Kong's youngest doctoral pianists became the first local student to obtain fellowship (with distinction) from the Royal Schools of Music at age 19. Recognised as a prodigy in music education she began teaching at the age of 22 and has served as a judge for numerous public competitions.
