Explore the art of video and music with Marshall J. Baumgartner and Derik Savage.“Music Tech Mondays” is a semester-long interview series open to the public featuring discussions with music tech innovators, Grammy winners, and industry leaders across the globe hosted by award-winning music app developer Matthew Fecher.
Hosted in the Informatics and Technology Communications Complex room 071, the interview with Marshall J. Baumgartner and Derik Savage on October 7 at 7 p.m. will focus on video and filmmaking within the music industry.

Baumgartner is currently the Head of Video for TourDesign Creative Services, the marketing production division of Live Nation Entertainment. With over 20 years of experience in the film and music industries, his passion for creating compelling stories and events has never wavered.
As a multi-talented, technical thinker, Marshall has worked with countless international artists of all types. Years at Sundance Film Festival, touring the country (and parts of the world) with bands, and supporting the local artistic and cultural scene has led Marshall to appreciate the joy of learning the craft and to never stop learning how to improve upon the creative workflow needed to make compelling work.
Derik Savage / Savage Media, Founder/CEO
Derik is currently the owner of Savage Media, a digital/video marketing firm based in Indianapolis. Derik began filming concerts under the name MonkeyEatsMonkey (later re-branded as The Show Archive) working with several co-collaborators to capture and present live music in small venues from an intimate and artful perspective. His work, featured at theshowarchive.com, has been viewed by millions and has helped further the careers of many artists. He has directed live music session videos for such notable acts as Of Montreal, Built to Spill, Sturgill Simpson, JJ Grey, Walk the Moon, Margot and The Nuclear So and Sos, and Lily & Madeleine. Additionally, he has filmed at concerts for several major artists including Van Halen, Willie Nelson, Jane’s Addiction, Queens of the Stone Age, Reignwolf, Cake, and many others.
Savage has been a significant figure in the Indianapolis music scene since the early 2000s. He contributed to IndianapolisMusic.net and served as president of the Indianapolis Music Group. During this time, he also performed as a guitarist and vocalist in several local bands while studying informatics at IUPUI.
