The Arts Commission of Christ Church presents Music for Organ and Trumpet on Sunday, November 8 at 4:00pm featuring Fred Jodry on organ and Sarah Jesson on trumpet.
Admission is free and all are welcome to attend. There will be a reception following the concert.
Frederick Jodry holds both a Bachelor's Degree in Organ Performance and a 1987 Master's degree in the Performance of Early Music from the New England Conservatory (NEC), where he studied under Yuko Hayashi, Lorna Cooke de Varon, and Donald Teeters, and was awarded the prestigious Chadwick Medal. A distinguished organist, conductor, and educator, Jodry served as Associate Organist at Boston's Church of the Advent (1984–1989) and taught Music History and Theory at Brown University from 1991 to 2025, where he also directed the globally touring University Choir. He is the founder of the Schola Cantorum of Boston, a 12-voice Renaissance sacred music ensemble that has performed throughout New England for four decades. An active recitalist for the Organ Historical Society, Jodry has performed at renowned venues worldwide, including the Church of the Madeleine in Paris, St. Mark's Cathedral in Seattle, and Trinity Church in Boston and New York. Following a tenure as Music Director at the First Unitarian Church of Providence (2000–2021), he was recently appointed co-Music Director at the historic Trinity Church in Newport, which will welcome a commissioned Fisk Organ Opus 170 in the spring of 2027 to celebrate its 300th parish anniversary.
Sarah Jessen is an avid solo, chamber and orchestral musician based out of Providence, Rhode Island. She has played guest principal trumpet on several occasions with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, including their Messiah where the Minnesota Star Tribune praised her “flamboyant peals” during The Trumpet Shall Sound. Ms. Jessen has performed as a substitute with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the New York Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. She frequently tours with the chamber group Seraph Brass as a guest artist and recorded on their album Showcase. She attended the Curtis Institute of Music where she studied with David Bilger, the former principal trumpet of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and was a fellow at the Tanglewood Music Center from 2020–2022, where she studied with members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Outside of trumpet, Ms. Jessen enjoys rock climbing and spending time with her two cats.
