Music for Community: A Benefit Concert for Maine Needs

An evening of music in support of immigrant and vulnerable communities across Maine.

In moments that call for care, we turn to music.

For more than two decades, 317 Main has been a place where people of all ages, cultures, backgrounds, identities, and musical interests gather to learn, perform, and grow together. Music has a unique ability to remind us of our shared humanity — to dissolve distance, soften division, and reconnect us to one another in real time.

When we stand for and support one another, we strengthen the cultural fabric of our community.

On Friday, March 6 at 6:30pm, 317 Main’s Teaching Artists and staff come together for a special benefit concert supporting Maine Needs, a statewide nonprofit serving asylum seekers, students, the unhoused population, survivors of domestic violence, and individuals and families facing financial adversity.

This is not a typical Founders Hall performance. It is a collective offering—an evening shaped by generosity, reflection, and powerful music—with 100% of all proceeds donated directly to Maine Needs.

Together, we will create a space for hope, connection, and meaningful action. This concert will feature a diverse mix of artists representing 317 Main’s musical community and collaborators from across the region.

This is a first for us.

317 Main is a nonprofit music arts organization. Our core work is education, performance, and building community through music. We do not typically raise funds for other nonprofits.

But we are also people—artists, teachers, neighbors—living in a complex and rapidly changing society. This concert emerged directly from the desire of our staff and Teaching Artists to do something tangible. To use the skills we have. To respond in a way that feels constructive, generous, and grounded in who we are.

Every performer is volunteering their time. Every hour of planning and preparation is donated. Our goal is simple: to direct 100% of proceeds to an organization doing essential work outside our traditional purview.

We chose to support Maine Needs, which partners with social service organizations across Maine to provide essential resources to those navigating some of life’s most difficult transitions. Their work supports:

• Asylum seekers and immigrant families
• Students and educators
• Individuals experiencing homelessness
• Survivors of domestic violence
• Maine residents facing financial hardship
