About this Event
  • The Kalamkari museum sari created by National Award winner C Subramanyam titled Origin of Weaving will be on silent auction alongside a few other treasures and museum saris from the Journey & Exile collection exhibited at the Asian Art Museum SF in March.
  • A spectacular collection of Kalamkari pieces will be on sale, including saris, dupattas and tunics created by Mr. Subramanyam and his sons and grandchildren.
  • A well-curated collection of silk handloom saris will be on sale, created by master weavers newly joining the museum sari initiative.
  • At 12:30pm, we will welcome Sonia Patwardhan, founder and curator of Laasya Art, for a short discussion on Indian traditional and modern art.
Many thanks to Madhurya, a Bangalore-based atelier that worked closely with the Subramanyam family to create the Origin of Weaving museum sari and curate the Kalamkari collection for this sale.
Many thanks to Urshika Kapoor Studio based in Newark, CA, for curating the festive handloom sari collection for this sale.
Many thanks to Sonia Patwardhan for the contemporary art treasures we are able to include in the benefit sale.
All sales will benefit C Subramanyam's family to support their recovery from the sudden demise of their patriarch after a brief and financially damaging illness.
Sale pricing is on par with India prices, and saris range from $400 to $4000 and up.
Feel free to make a tax-deductible donation to benefit the artist's family here: Support for C Subramanyam's Family
