Join us in celebrating Buitenleesdag – a National Day where people are encouraged to read outdoors, given the upcoming summer weather.
On June 28, from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, we will gather in Haarlemmermeerse Bos, near the ship area, for a multicultural outdoor reading event for children, parents, and everyone who loves stories.
Several language communities will host read-aloud sessions for children at the same time, each in their own reading corner. Together, they will create a welcoming and family-friendly space where visitors can discover stories, languages, and cultures from around the world.
And if read-aloud sessions are not your thing, simply bring your own book and enjoy a few peaceful hours of reading in nature. It might be the perfect opportunity to finally finish that library book waiting on your shelf or continue the novel you started some time ago. Children and adults alike are welcome to relax, read, and enjoy the atmosphere.
In addition to the reading sessions, there will be interactive activities for children and families, including games, dance, and other cultural activities organized by the participating communities and open to everyone.
Our goal is to create a space where families from different backgrounds can meet, connect, and learn from one another while celebrating linguistic and cultural diversity in an accessible and joyful way.
