Multi-talented Local Singer-songwriters: Blair Morgan & Jessie Shanks
Blair's recently released album Sunday River blends folk, Americana and indie influences, telling stories of people, places and journeys. His songs travel from the streets of Lisbon to the West Coast of Te Waipounamu, exploring themes of resilience, friendship and home through engaging storytelling.
UK publication Fatea Magazine wrote, "This is a great album which deserves to be heard-seek it out," while veteran New Zealand music writer Graham Reid said, "These are strong, discrete songs and Morgan has excellent musicians in support."
Having traversed the countryside for the last fifteen or so years in Aotearoa’s hardest working band The Eastern, Jessie Shanks is a renowned guitar picking, banjo frailing, foot stomper with a sweet southern voice and a raft of songs built from years on the road. Shanks has cultivated her own unique approach to roots music, performing haunting contemporary folk tunes steeped in time and place and woven from her countless travels.
Performing together and solo, Blair and Jessie present their songs as they were first written: voice, guitar and the stories behind them, in the intimate setting of the Christchurch Folk Club."
