Muhtadi International Drumming Festival – Special Edition

For decades, the Muhtadi International Drumming Festival has brought artists, communities, and audiences together to celebrate the power of rhythm, culture, and connection. This year, we gather for a special one-day edition – a Living Tribute to the festival's founder, Muhtadi, whose vision has inspired generations of drummers, performers, and music lovers.

For countless drummers in Toronto and beyond, Muhtadi was the first teacher to welcome them into the world of African drumming. His classes were open, accessible, and joyful—places where complete beginners discovered a lifelong passion and experienced the transformative power of music and community.

This special edition features a curated lineup of artists who have performed at the festival throughout its history, coming together to honour Muhtadi's extraordinary legacy. Whether you've attended the festival for years, studied with Muhtadi, discovered your love of drumming through one of his classes, or are experiencing the festival for the first time, we invite you join us for this special celebration.

Admission is free, but advance registration is required.
