Join us at One Market Plaza for a fun and creative in-person event where you can unleash your inner artist! Learn new tips and tricks from the talented East Bay artist, . All of our pop-up style workshops are hosted by !

Albert has experience in tutoring, mentoring, and teaching various subjects in educational settings and community studios.

Enjoy a relaxing night and dive into Albert's tips and tricks while learning about building handmade functional mugs from clay slabs.

In this workshop, you'll learn the basics of handbuilding pottery techniques to create your very own unique mug. No experience is necessary - just bring your enthusiasm and willingness to get your hands dirty!

Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned pro, this workshop is perfect for anyone looking to explore their creativity in a relaxed and supportive environment. Enjoy ending the workshop by creating your own surface design with slips and underglazes! Don't miss out on this opportunity to craft a one-of-a-kind mug that you can proudly sip your favorite beverages from! All levels are welcome! This workshop is beginner friendly.

6:00-6:10pm | Welcome & Seating

-Aprons and complimentary drinks are provided upon entrance

-Begin introductions between staff and guests

6:10-6:45pm | Mug Building Demo & Start Building!

-Introduce slab mug building demonstrations, tools, and materials

-Share creative examples for inspiration

6:45-7:00pm | Handle & Foot Demonstrations

-Demonstrate how to pull handles from a coil or slab

-Demonstrate Foot Options (stamp, carve, or just smooth)

-Tips for making a handle that feels good in the hand!

7:00-7:30pm | Refining & Decorating

-Guidance will be provided for attaching handles & surface decoration

-Slips & Underglazes will be provided and demonstrated for decoration

-Staff will fire bisqueware and glaze mugs in clear glazes

7:30-8:00pm | Clean Up

-Clean up materials & return aprons

-Discuss firing schedules and pick up times. Students will be offered various dates for pick up within a 2 week window after the workshop takes place.

Our pop-up style workshops are located inside of The SmArt Collective exhibition space on the ground floor of One Market Plaza (Boxcar One)
