Mud Building & Community Potluck
About this Event
Natural Building Work Party
If you enjoy outdoor DIY projects, this event might be for you! Whether you're a professional builder or completely new to construction: come join in this mud building project, meet some great people, learn about building with raw clay soil, and enjoy a fun day outdoors.
This event is free to attend. We'll break for a group potluck lunch around 1:00 PM. Feel free to bring something to share, or simply bring yourself, there's usually plenty of extra food.
What We'll Be Working On
During this work party, we'll be preparing space in the outdoor kithen for the upcoming cob oven build in August. We'll finish the foundation and set the firebrick hearth.
The main project for the day will be a bit of an experiment. Our goal is to create a reusable block form made from stabilized clay soil. Traditionally, cob ovens are built around a sand mound that is later removed after construction. This reusable block form would serve the same purpose while speeding up the building process and making oven construction more accessible for future builds.
Tentative Schedule
10:00 AM – 11:00 AM
- Set the firebrick hearth
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM
- Mix materials and begin building the reusable block form
1:00 PM – 2:00 PM
- Potluck lunch (bring something to share if you'd like)
2:00 PM – Until Finished
- Continue building and complete the reusable block form
