Mountain Bike Service Series: Master Your Bike Maintenance
This three-part Mountain Bike Service Series provides practical, hands-on training to help riders build confidence in maintaining and troubleshooting their bikes. Each class offers detailed insights, from basic bike care to advanced trail-side skills, so you can ride with confidence every time.
Class 1: Pre-Ride Prep & Bike Basics
🗓 Time: 2.5-3 Hours | Snacks & Refreshments Provided
Learn the fundamentals to keep your bike in top shape and ready for any adventure. This session covers:
- Proper Bike Washing (20–30 minutes): Techniques to clean without damaging components.
- Bike Inspection & Bolt Check (20–30 minutes): Spot potential issues and ensure every bolt is secure.
- Storing & Traveling with Your Bike (15–30 minutes): Tips for maximizing bike lifespan and safely transporting your gear.
- Bike Anatomy & Terminology (30 minutes–1 hour): Learn the names and functions of key components.
- Trail Essentials (10 minutes): What tools and gear to carry for unexpected trail-side fixes.
Class 2: Optimizing Bike Setup & Maintenance
🗓 Time: 2.5-3 Hours
Fine-tune your bike for comfort, performance, and reliability. This session includes:
- Setting Air Pressures (20–45 minutes): Customize tire and suspension settings for your weight and terrain.
- Handlebar & Lever Adjustments (30–45 minutes): Align bars, adjust lever reach, and fine-tune seat height (including cable adjustments).
- Sealant Refresh (10–20 minutes): How to check and replenish sealant in tubeless tires.
- Wheel Removal & Installation (30–45 minutes): Learn the right way to remove and reattach wheels for maintenance and transport.
Class 3: Trail-Side Maintenance & Etiquette
🗓 Time: 2–2.5 Hours
Master the skills to handle common issues and ride responsibly:
- Trail-Side Repairs (1–1.5 hours): Plug tire holes, change and install tubes, and rebead tires for a secure seal.
- Trail Etiquette (30 minutes): Understand best practices to maintain trails, respect other riders, and ride safely.

Blake Milliken’s journey in the bike industry began in 1995 when he started working in bike shops at just 15 years old. Aside from a nine-year hiatus in the ski industry, he’s been dedicated to bikes ever since. Blake is passionate about bikepacking, exploring the Colorado Trail and Utah’s deserts. His favorite places to ride include Crested Butte and the incredible local trails of the Front Range. With decades of experience, Blake brings a wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm to the shop and trail alike.
Dom:
Originally from New Mexico, Dom Megalli has called Colorado home for the past twelve years. A competitive slopestyle and dirt jump rider, Dom excels at flipping and spinning his way through the Front Range’s best dirt jumps. As one of our trusted bike techs, Dom specializes in suspension tuning and rebuilds, ensuring every ride feels flawless. When he's not wrenching in the shop, you’ll find him on the trails, pushing limits and inspiring others with his passion for riding and community.
