Haley Schriber
Certified Local Government & Community Preservation Coordinator, Michigan State
Throughout my life, I have been drawn to historic buildings and their stories. History sparked my interest as my siblings and I explored historic barns and outbuildings on the family farm in rural Michigan where I found myself getting lost in what the past must have looked like. This early love of history has evolved into my belief that historic preservation is bigger than preserving old beautiful buildings, and instead an invaluable strategic
planning and economic tool. Through my professional career as a historic
preservation specialist and architectural historian, I developed a diverse
skill set participating in and leading projects throughout the Midwest,
Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast regions of the U.S. Early on in my career, I gained
extensive experience with complex cultural resource management projects before
moving on to a position as the historic preservation specialist at an
architectural firm in Washington, D.C. Most recently, I returned to my home
state of Michigan and work for the State Historic Preservation Office as the Certified Local
Government Coordinator and Community Preservation Coordinator. Some of the most
impactful experiences in my career have been when I cultivated meaningful
relationships with clients or members of the public to empower them to make
educated decisions for their historic resources.
