This drama, released in Australia in 2026, is based on the life of John Davidson, a Scottish man from a working class background, who, at the age of 12, began to exhibit behaviours which would much later be diagnosed as caused by Tourette's syndrome. Ignorance of this in the 1980s leads to strain in the family and the breakdown of his parent's marriage, contact with the police and an attempt at suicide.
Finally, in the mid-1990s, his condition is correctly diagnosed and he is prescribed medication to help alleviate the symptoms, which often cause uncontrollable movements, outbreaks of obscene language and other socially inappropriate behaviour. There are still incidents, however, but finally, with the help of some understanding supporters, John is able to begin advocating for greater awareness of the condition and eventually in 2019 receives an award from Queen Elizabeth II.
An astonishing performance by Robert Aramayo as John, which won him the Best Actor Award at the BAFTAs, is not to be missed. Critics called the film 'important, heart-warming and hilarious', with an audience rating of nearly 100 per cent approval.
