Mozo Double Up
August 16, 2026 | Stowe Mountain Resort, Vermont
Double the Climb. Double the Reward.
The Mozo Double Up is not your average trail race. This is a rugged, unforgiving mountain adventure that takes runners deep into the heart of Vermont's highest peaks and most technical terrain. If you're looking for smooth trails and gentle grades, this isn't your race. If you thrive on steep climbs, technical descents, exposed ridgelines, and earning every mile, welcome to the Double Up.
Starting at the base of Stowe Mountain Resort, runners immediately begin climbing toward Mount Mansfield, Vermont's highest peak. The course traverses sections of the Long Trail, America's oldest long-distance hiking trail, while weaving through some of the most spectacular alpine terrain in New England.
The "Double Up" name comes from the race's defining challenge: you'll summit Mount Mansfield twice. After climbing to the Forehead and descending the brutally technical Maple Ridge Trail into Underhill, runners turn around and tackle a second demanding ascent via Sunset Ridge before returning to the ridgeline.
Expect relentless elevation gain, quad-shredding descents, rock scrambles, exposed ridges, and sections where complete focus is mandatory. There are no-fall zones on this course, meaning a mistake could have serious consequences. This race demands fitness, experience, and respect for mountain terrain.
A Special Place
Much of the course travels through Mount Mansfield's rare alpine tundra ecosystem. This fragile environment exists in only a handful of locations in the Northeast. Runners must stay on the trail at all times and avoid stepping on sensitive alpine vegetation.
What to Expect
Two ascents of Mount Mansfield
Technical Long Trail terrain
Steep, sustained climbs and descents
Stunning alpine views
Rugged ridgelines and rocky footing
A true mountain running experience
One of the toughest and most rewarding races in Vermont
Hiking poles are permitted but must be carried for the entire race. Headphones and music devices are not allowed.
As race founder RJ Thompson said:
"This course is as painful as it is beautiful, and there's no denying its wow factor. How often do you get to run a legitimate race over sections of the Long Trail, America's oldest long-distance hiking trail?"
If you don't run hills, don't consider this race. If you do run hills, run more of them—and then come test yourself at the Mozo Double Up.
