This program pairs the monumental Great Mass in C minor —music of scale, clarity, and power— with the beautiful, urgent intensity of Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor, performed by Fr. Paul Maillet, a student of Leon Fleisher. Written in one of Mozart’s rare minor keys, the concerto is dramatic, direct, and strikingly modern in spirit.
Music Director Samuel F. Rowe leads the Baltimore Basilica Schola Cantorum and Chamber Orchestra in these two masterworks, heard in the remarkable acoustics of America’s First Cathedral.
