About this Event
Southampton's longest-running open mic for spoken word invites you to an evening of creativity, connection, and inspiration! Join us at the cosy Harbour Lights Café Bar in Ocean Village, where the warmth of community meets a stunning view of the water.
With monthly special guests, loyal regulars, and total newcomers, this intimate night promises a blend of laughter, tears, and thought-provoking performances that will leave you moved. Booking is highly advised as we get quite busy. Tickets are by donation - please give as much as you can to support Bunker178 and this event.
Whether you're a seasoned performer or taking your first step onto the stage, Moving Voices is a safe and welcoming space for all - come and move us with your words!
For this month, poems can have a spooky/macbre theme but don't have to. Dress up encouraged, however it is not compulsory!
Performers, please arrive between 7 & 7.30pm to sign up.
About our special guests - for this spooky special we have three twenty minute performances, all of which promise to be a real treat (or trick!)
The Travelling Talesman is a dynamic spoken word performer specializing in myths, legends, and folktales, with over twenty years of professional experience. His engaging performances captivate both adult and family audiences, weaving together tales of Norse gods, Celtic mysteries, and dragon slayers, while drawing from a diverse global repertoire. The Travelling Talesman has toured extensively across the UK and regularly shares insights into his craft through his blog, Folk Tales Corner.
He will be doing a short set of Halloween-themed tales as a warm up for his 'Goblins, Ghouls and Long-Legged Beasties' show at October Books - see here for details.
Victoria Hancock aka Jeu Jeu la Foille trained as a mime artist and then became a poet. Her writings are beautiful melodies, telling you terrible things.
'Jeu Jeu la Foille's Pithy Obituary' is Victoria's third solo show; still very much at the embryonic stage. Exploring death rituals with Jeu Jeu's usual reverent irreverance - we don't know what it is yet, will you tell us?
Holly Kybett Smith is a femme lesbian writer, poet and lover of all things Gothic. When she isn't performing around Pompey and Southampton, you can usually find her curled up in the corner of a coffee shop with an iced vanilla latte and a book.
Hosted by RKP - a bold and boundary-pushing poet and painter, a long term host for Moving Voices, they foster a safe space for vulnerability and expression. Describing themselves as a "walking trigger warning," they blend humor, raw emotion, and personal exploration through themes of sexual abuse, trauma, and mental illness. Balancing the poignant with the playful, they craft a unique space where no topic is too sensitive, too taboo, or too lighthearted to explore.
This event will be held at Harbour Lights (Picture House Cinema), Ocean Village SO14 3TL
