About this Event

Moving Toward Myself: A Writing & Movement Retreat for Women
Saturday, September 12
2–5pm at Serenity Roots Yoga Studio, Athens, Ohio

So many of us spend our days caring for someone or something else. This afternoon is an invitation to turn that care toward yourself.

Join Athens Poet Laureate Becca Lachman and longtime yoga and mindfulness teacher Michelle Greenfield for three hours of gentle movement, guided writing, and quiet reflection — where poetry and the body meet. Through poems, simple prompts, and accessible yoga, we'll explore what it means to come home to ourselves — to meet our bodies and our lives with compassion, right here, right now. We'll make room for whatever's here — the joy and gratitude alongside the grief, worry, or weariness so many of us are carrying.

No writing or yoga experience needed. Nothing you write will be collected or critiqued, and sharing is always optional. You'll leave with a packet of poems and prompts to carry the practice home.

What to bring:

  • A notebook and something to write with
  • A small object from home that represents your commitment to your own care, or who you are in this moment

Tea and coloring supplies provided.

Sliding scale registration — choose the tier that fits:

  • $60 — Standard. The true cost of the retreat.
  • $30 — Supported. For anyone for whom cost would be a barrier. No questions asked, no explanation needed.
  • $90 — Pay It Forward. Covers your spot and helps hold a place for someone else.
