*About the Workshop;*
This Indigenous and contemporary movement workshop is rooted in Yoruba and Bata dance traditions and accompanied by live music. Participants will explore the techniques, history, and cosmology of Bata dance while engaging with Ridwan’s dynamic choreographic approach, influenced by kinesthetic practices and Yoruba traditions.
The workshop is open to beginners, intermediate movers, and professional dancers who are interested in learning, exchanging knowledge, and expanding their movement vocabulary through an encounter with African dance practices.
Together, we will stamp, breathe, sing, move, and connect through the energy of live drumming, creating a shared experience within a joyful and welcoming community.

Ridwan is a Nigerian dancer, choreographer, researcher, and art activist from Bariga, Lagos, with ancestral roots in Oyo State. His practice moves between Yoruba Bata dance traditions and contemporary performance, while engaging with critical theories and experimental forms. He is Co-founder of the Future of Dance Company. He was also nominated for the German Tanzprize in 2024.
