Ukrainian Artist Reflects on His Life - in Russian with English subtitles
Senate Square Society presents Художник и война (Artist and War), a documentary by director Grigory Amnuel exploring the relationship between war, art, and historical memory.
Through the life of Alexander Vasyakin, a Ukrainian sculptor who survived the Siege of Leningrad and fought in World War II, the film examines how the experience of war shapes an artist's creative vision and understanding of humanity.
Moving between personal history, artistic achievement, and the tragedies of the twentieth century, Artist and War raises enduring questions about the responsibility of artists to confront violence, preserve memory, and seek beauty in a world marked by destruction. These questions resonate particularly strongly today, as Ukraine once again faces the devastation of war.
At each of our events you can expect a warm atmosphere, an ability to network as well as complimentary refreshments.
