About the Artist:
Stacey Allen is an award-winning performance artist, curator, and advocate for arts education, educational equity, and reproductive justice, all while being a wife and mother to three beautiful children. Unearthing untold stories and creating pathways for social change is at the crux of her artistic and civic work. She is the Founder and Artistic Director of Nia’s Daughters Movement Collective, a professional dance company with the mission to create and support art and wellness initiatives through the lens of Black women and girls, for which she received a Congressional Recognition. Stacey is particularly proud of her children’s book, “A Little Optimism Goes a Long Way”, and "The Fairytale Project", a dance theater production centering the Texas Freedom Colony, Shankleville, that has been touring for over 2 years. As an emerging civic servant, she serves as the Vice-Chair of the Missouri City Arts and Culture Commission, the Leadership Committee for Arts Connect Houston, The Houston Citywide Juneteenth Committee, and many more committees at the intersection of education, the arts, and justice.
