Move Wild Mama!
About this Event
All birth, your body, and your baby require is the version of you that dares to be wild!
But wait, before we get into any of that…Let's talk about sex and birth.
Yep, we're going there first. *Rubs hands together*
I want to share a little something with you. A short story so you know how we got here 👇🏾
“What gets baby in, is what gets baby out.”
Will forever live rent free in my mind. These are the exact words my Grandmother used to say in order to drive a point home when telling the compelling birth stories of the babies she’s caught.
These stories I’ve heard a thousand times already but I let her express herself anyway to speed up time while she braided my hair.
There was one story in particular that piqued my interest and curiosity though, and it was the one of a couple who excused themselves from her presence to go into another room to make love during labor!
I was a pregnant 18-year-old at the time of this story and I thought it was sooo cool!! But at the same time I did think, “How?” Especially since I’ve only witnessed women giving birth in pain and terror through the media and hearing traumatizing stories.
Even though I was young, I knew I wanted to give birth differently. Which is why I asked my Grandmother to be my Midwife. I wanted a homebirth and to experience all the things that the women in her stories experienced.
Now, I knew I wasn’t going to be having sex during labor because, come on, all my parentals were going to be there! Awkward!
But I held on to her words of wisdom—that sex is a powerful initiator of labor & birth.
And let me tell you, sex is something I never shied away from.
I’ve always been deeply connected to my sexual beingness. Maybe even hypersexual, with an overactive sacral chakra–It’s a whole story—but it’s something that I kept hidden. Because being a young woman, who is sensually and sexually empowered on your own terms was so taboo back then!!!
In fact, aspects of a woman’s sexuality, experience of sex, body, even whole existence are still taboo. It’s wild!
But we’ll talk more about this☝🏽in person.
Anyway, over the years I’ve heard women young and advanced express that sex was not a thing for them during pregnancy. Their faces cringe, noses turn up and bodies close off just thinking about it.
As for me, I was turned on my entire pregnancy. I had sex throughout my entire pregnancy. Sometimes multiple times in a day. Leading straight up to my labor.
Literally, I was having sex when my baby’s waters released at 3am. Sorry Dad! (I lived in my parents home at the time).
I know, I know. Teenagers 🙄 Don't judge me.
Two hours later active labor started. Six hours after that my Sunshine was in my arms.
This was almost 22 years ago.
Since then I have attended many births and supported many women in reclaiming their bodies and their power in a multitude of ways. All while hearing my Grandma’s voice whispering in my ear—“Cuz you know Zay, what gets baby in, is what gets baby out”—consciously and unconsciously weaving her words into everything I do.
And it is this ancient birth wisdom that women and Midwives have been using for eons! And I want to share it with you! Well, my version of it, that is.
But first we need to collectively acknowledge and accept that birth is a sexual experience!
Many folks have a hard time processing this because of the beliefs and information we were fed about birth, religiously and medically speaking.
We'll talk more about this☝🏽too in person.
Can we do that though?? Can we accept birth as a sexual experience…please?
I'll explain why it's important to accept it, just in case this is the first time you are hearing this.
Simply put, the same hormones that are at play when you are having sex, are the exact same hormones at play when you are in labor—and needed in order to push your baby out…bond with your baby…produce milk to breastfeed your baby… heal in postpartum…and to Mother for years beyond!
This is not only instinctual and intuitive. It's science!
So, when we say birth is a sexual experience, that's what we mean. It's not just about the act of having sex. It's about all the things underneath the sheets 😉
It’s about surrender.
It's about connection.
It's about intimacy.
It's about pleasure.
And feeling safe enough to trust a process that invites you beyond your perceived limits and into the fullness of your physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual capacity...and feeling good while trusting it.
Just like in sex.
Your rhythmic movements in labor, the deep primal sounds you make, your elevated heart rate, heavy breathing, sweating, and the transcendence you create in order to push your baby out, are all the same as when you are at your peak in sex, about to release an orgasm.
In fact, there is a whole movement around this called Orgasmic Birth where women are experiencing an orgasm as they are pushing their babies out. Yep, this is really a thing.
Which means Grandma and all the women who apply this wisdom are right. What gets baby in, does get baby out!
And now that you have a piece of my origin story and A LOT of context let's get to why you must MOVE WILD MAMA!
There is still an agenda to keep women disempowered, disconnected, misinformed, in crisis mode, and in fear when it comes to birth, our bodies and our babies.
We see the statistics, the dramatic displays of pregnancy & labor in the media as well as carry the projections of other people’s birth experiences...This all causes unnecessary stress or worry, heavily influences our decisions, and hijacks any bit of trust in our own process and the innate wisdom of our bodies.
Thus, outsourcing our inner authority, truth and power.
Which is by design I must say.
The truth is pregnancy & birth doesn't have to be a complex, chaotic, or overwhelming event. It is designed to be simple, intuitive, transformative, and even pleasurable.
And how we bring our babies into this world matters. How we show up for ourselves in pregnancy matters. How we treat ourselves and our bodies even before we conceive matters!!
Ok lemme take a breath…*Exhales*
Although sex is one of my top recommendations when asked by clients— “How can I start my labor naturally?”—I'm not attached to you having sex. That's just one of the tools in the toolbox.
I'm more invested in what's underneath the sheets…
Your pleasure.
Your empowerment.
And your embodiment.
Because that's what's going to shift the narratives, perceptions in the media and the power dynamics in the room at your birth.
That's what's going to tame your fear. The fears you have around your body, giving birth and even parenting.
That’s what’s going to shape how you meet the intensity of labor, how pain moves through you, and how deeply you can stay connected to your body through it all.
That's what's going to keep you turned on, tuned in, and feeling alive beyond postpartum.
And guess what? You already know how to do this! You just have to choose the version of you that dares to be wild!
The wild you that trusts herself and listens to her body.
The wild you that respects her own boundaries.
The wild you who makes choices in alignment with her inner authority.
The wild you that can clearly distinguish between her “YES” & “NO” and move accordingly.
The wild you unashamed to use her voice.
The wild you that's rooted in her values, beliefs, sovereignty and autonomy.
The wild you that owns her sensuality and sexuality unapologetically.
The wild you that chooses her own pleasure over and over again because she knows that it is the gateway to self-preservation, deepened relationships, heightened awareness, and massive change!!
And I'm here to help you remember your wildness. It's in you!
Whether you are in a hospital room.
In a tub at a birthing center.
On the way to the grocery store.
In a sacred space in your home.
Or in nature, swaddled by the elements.
You can give birth naturally on your own terms—deeply connected to your body & baby, fully in your power, with wild confidence!
