Join us at Peel Museum this October as Museum Manager, Chelsea Stewart, leads you through an exclusive discussion and tour exploring some of the mourning practices from the Victorian Period and why they were important as an expression of grief.
Congressman Peel suffered losses in his family including his oldest son and his wife, Mary Emaline. During this tour, we will take a look at some of the ways Samuel Peel may have mourned his family members based on the standards set by Queen Victoria when her husband, Prince Albert, died in 1861. These practices influenced Americans throughout the Victorian Period and gave rise to a few outlandish practices that seem odd and out of place in today's world.
