Suitable for those who lead groups in the hills of the UK and compliant with Mountain Training requirements.Welcome to our two-day Outdoor Leader First Aid Course page! This course is designed for outdoor enthusiasts and leaders who want to learn the skills necessary to handle common medical emergencies that may arise in the outdoors. In this course, you will learn the basics of first aid and emergency response, with a focus on wilderness scenarios.
Day 1: On the first day of the course, you will learn the basic principles of first aid and wilderness medicine. The day will start with an introduction to the course and a review of the course objectives. You will then learn about the anatomy and physiology of the human body, as well as the common injuries and illnesses that can occur in the outdoors.
Next, you will learn how to assess and manage a patient's airway, breathing, and circulation in emergency situations. You will also learn how to perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and manage shock.
After lunch, the course will cover how to manage soft tissue injuries, including wounds, burns, and fractures. You will also learn how to manage environmental emergencies, such as hypothermia, heat stroke, and dehydration.
Day 2: The second day of the course will focus on advanced first aid skills and emergency response. You will start the day by learning how to manage medical emergencies, such as heart attacks, strokes, and seizures. You will also learn how to manage allergic reactions and anaphylaxis.
After a mid-morning break, the course will move on to practical scenarios. You will be given the opportunity to practice your first aid skills in simulated wilderness scenarios. This will allow you to apply your knowledge in a realistic setting and gain confidence in your abilities.
The course will conclude with a review of the material covered in the course, and a final assessment. You will be evaluated on your ability to assess and manage a simulated patient in a wilderness setting.
