Moths, Coffee, and Crafts Morning!
About this Event
Did you know there are around 2,500 recorded species of moths in the UK? Join us for a morning of magical moths to see which ones are on our doorstep!
Meeting in the peacefulness of Birmingham Settlement’s Nature & Wellbeing Centre next to Edgbaston Reservoir, we will talk about our night-flying friends before unveiling the overnight moth trap to see what species are found in the urban oasis and designated Local Nature Reserve of Edgbaston Reservoir.
The session will take place in the beautiful Nature Zone down at the bottom of our field – we will gather round together, enjoy fresh coffee (teas also available) under the shade of the pergola and relax in this natural space as we explore the finds.
We will then use books to identify and record moths, logging on the National Moth Recording scheme for verification before releasing them back to nature.
If you like, you can also take part in a small moth craft afterwards for a moment of mindfulness!
You don’t have to be a moth expert or know anything about moths to join us – just a curiosity is enough.
This event is being run by volunteers as a small fundraiser for our Green Barn Crowdfund - - and therefore appreciate donations (suggested £10) to help towards the costs of the new activity centre at the site – a really important space to support environmental learning, access and education at the Nature and Wellbeing Centre. However, we don’t want there to be any barriers to access – we appreciate you giving what you can!
