MOTHEROTHER Social Event
About this Event
Join us on 16th November for the first in the new season of MOTHEROTHER social events. We will be joined by Katie Pollard and Hannah Kirkham who will be chatting to us about their individual practices and their collaborative project Grow & Sew.
They will then guide us through a patch making session where we will apply a variety of stitching techniques to patches of naturally dyed material. These patches can then be taken home and used for mending or as a keepsake.
You will also be able to hear more about the new MOTHEROTHER programme, enjoy some light refreshments and socialise with other artists, parents and carers.
Our social events are relaxed and welcoming. The doors open at 10.45am and there will be greeters on hand to welcome you.
This session is designed with the needs of parents and caregivers in mind. You can attend with or without your dependant. We will have extra pairs of hands available to support you and any dependants you may wish to bring.
There will be light refreshments available throughout.
About the artists:
Katie Pollard is an artist and natural dyer based in Newcastle upon Tyne. Her practice involves growing and foraging plants and collecting food waste and experimenting with these to create natural dyes and inks. She has an interest in Permaculture and this often feeds into her art practice too. She likes to explore ways that natural dyeing can be used as a tool for boosting wellbeing and connecting people to each other and their local environment. She is interested in creating space for community-building, skill-sharing and conversation, and allowing time to observe and connect to slow natural processes and seasonal change.

Hannah Kirkham is a garment maker based in Newcastle upon Tyne. She hand-makes clothes, in small batches, using natural fabrics that are either organic or recycled. Practicing crafts alongside other people and sharing skills, knowledge and ideas is a joy for Hannah. She is interested in exploring the potential of collective working and community to create alternatives to the dominant capitalist and extractive systems.
