August 8th 2026 is Moth Night at Troy Meadows Preserve - 8:30 to 10:30 PM
Join us for an entertaining evening with Blaine Rothauser, a wildlife biologist and passionate lepidopterist (moth expert), as he shares his vast knowledge about New Jersey moths. Blaine has spent many sleepless nights attracting, documenting, and learning about these vitally important creatures, which you will experience firsthand. Following an outdoor slideshow presentation, Blaine will light up the night with his 1000-watt metal halide lamp and invite you to witness the spectacular exhibition of moths of various colors, shapes, and sizes.
Admission is free but registration is required. Ages 10 and up.
Bring a folding chair for the presentation, water, and a flashlight for navigating the site at night! Troy Meadows is a natural area, so we also recommend long sleeves/pants or insect repellent as protection against mosquitoes.
