Design a floral mosaic on slate using reclaimed ceramics, glass, and found materials inspired by wildflowers and summer landscapes.
About this Event

Celebrate the colours and textures of late summer with a relaxed mosaic workshop inspired by wildflowers, canal-side planting, and seasonal botanicals at Gathering Ground.

Using the Picassiette mosaic method, you’ll create your own decorative mosaic artwork on natural slate using reclaimed ceramics, glass, stone, and found materials. Inspired by summer blooms and the surrounding landscape, this workshop offers a chance to slow down, work creatively with your hands, and connect with nature through design.

Led by contemporary mosaic artist Sara Melville, you’ll learn how to cut and shape materials, develop your own floral-inspired composition, and assemble a finished mosaic suitable for outdoor display.

Weather permitting, we’ll work outdoors in the garden space beside the canal, surrounded by seasonal planting. If required, the session will move indoors to our upstairs studio.

During the workshop you will learn how to:

  • Create mosaics using the Picassiette method
  • Work with recycled and found materials including china, stone, and glass
  • Cut and shape tesserae using mosaic tools
  • Design a nature-inspired composition
  • Fix your mosaic using adhesive techniques
  • Grout your piece through a live demonstration*

* Depending on your choice of materials and drying time, some participants may need to complete grouting at home. Grout will be provided along with guidance.
