For 136 years, the dead were brought to the building on Lagrange Street. From 1889 until 2025, it operated as Urbanski's Funeral Home, one of the longest continuously running mortuaries in the region. Thousands of bodies passed through its basement morgue. Thousands more were prepared on its embalming tables, laid out in its viewing parlours, and grieved over in its private corridors.
Nine people are known to have died on the property itself.
When the funeral home closed, nothing was stripped out. The basement morgue, the embalming rooms, the preparation areas, the viewing parlours, the narrow private hallways where families once waited in silence – all of it remains exactly as it was. The building still holds the original ice casket once used to transport the remains of a Civil War veteran back to Michigan.
It is a building frozen at the precise moment it stopped serving the living.
Mortuary Manor has only just begun receiving paranormal investigators, and the early reports are striking. A female voice captured on audio in the basement embalming room when no one was present. Shadow figures moving along the walls of the viewing parlours. Sudden, localised temperature shifts in the private corridors. The persistent sensation, reported again and again, of being closely watched.
