July Studio Series: Painting the World Around Us
PLEASE READ ENTIRELY BEFORE REGISTERING
This July, I am opening the studio for two intentional 4-session blocks focused on the fundamentals of light and nature. We will follow the path of the Impressionist masters, starting with the basics in the studio and moving outdoors as we progress.
SESSION DATES (Pick Session A, Session B, or Both!)
Session A: July 7, 9, 14, 16
Session B: July 21, 23, 28, 30
WHAT TO EXPECT
The Essentials: We start by sketching and finding lights and darks, using still-life studies to build our skills.
Exploring Materials: A chance to practice with colored pencil, watercolor, pastel, and acrylic paints to see how different materials capture light.
Heading Outdoors: Our goal is to move to the porch or garden for a true plein air experience, painting directly from nature just like the masters did.
Quality Materials: I provide the same artist-quality paints and surfaces I use for my own work. No supply lists required.
Refreshments: You are welcome to bring your own snack and drink.
I am as excited about this as you are. It has been a long, busy winter season and I am finally finding a time slot to allow others to share my passion with. As a NJ-certified art teacher and professional artist, I am dedicated to building strength in our community through creativity and art. [For Adults] Parking: Please park in the municipal Flagstar parking for safety of distracted drivers.
[For Kids/Teens] The Porch: Please walk students to the porch and wait for doors to open. Be prompt for pickup on the porch.
About the Instructor
Maria Milazzo has been the owner and operator of Young at Art in downtown Matawan since 1990. A 2007 graduate of Kean University with a degree in Art and Education, she was recently honored as the 2025 Spirit of Matawan for her contributions to the local arts community.
