About this Event

Join us for Morning Calm with Jiaxin Li, pianist from the Royal College of Music, who will be playing works by Felix Mendelssohn, JS Bach, Chopin, Franck, Kapustin, Scriabin and Shostakovich.

Dates: Daily Monday - Friday

Time: 8.40-8.55am

Location: St George's Hanover Square, St George Street, W1

Morning Calm is a short piano recital beginning at 8.40am, consisting of around 10-12 minutes of music followed by a few minutes' silence for reflection and meditation before ending with brief prayers for the day ahead. You are most welcome to stay for the whole recital or if you would prefer not to stay for the Christian conclusion to leave just before the end. Morning Calm aims to offer a reflective and calm start to the day for people of any faith or none in the hustle and bustle of the West End of London.

As always admission is free.

Jiaxin Li is a Chinese pianist and composer currently in her third year of undergraduate study at the Royal College of Music, London. She has performed in major concert halls and churches, presenting a wide-ranging repertoire from the classical canon to contemporary works.

Since the age of 12, Jiaxin has received numerous national and international awards, including the Gold Award at the Singapore Golden Lion Cup International Piano Competition and First Prize at the Sixth Kawai Asia Piano Competition, both at age 13. She later received the Silver Award at the Scriabin International Arts Festival and First Prize in the Recital Class at the Coulsdon and Purley Festival.

Alongside her performance activity, Jiaxin is also active as a composer. Her music has been featured in commercial and media projects, reflecting her interest in the dialogue between traditional musical language and modern expression.

Influenced by her strong interest in mathematics, Jiaxin often approaches both composition and performance through structural clarity and formal coherence. She explores ideas of symmetry, proportion, and rhythmic organisation in her creative work, and brings the same analytical awareness to her interpretations, particularly in complex musical forms.
