🎶🖼️ Step into a world of scrolling paper stories, shadow puppets, live music, and handmade magic at the very first Morgantown Crankie Festival.
Artists from West Virginia, Detroit, Baltimore, Wales, and beyond will gather for three unique performances featuring crankies, which are illustrated moving panoramas, hand-cranked while musicians and storytellers perform live. Part visual art, part performance, they create a kind of low-tech magic that unfolds scene by scene. Some are funny. Some are eerie. Some are deeply moving. All are deeply human! Beautiful, spellbinding, and unlike anything else you’ve seen.
Over 20 artists will transform the theater into an intimate, immersive evening of folk art, music, storytelling, and shadow puppetry. Featured visiting artists include Katherine Fahey and Dan Van Allen (The Lantern Sisters, Maryland), Lindsay McCaw and Hannah Lewis (Michigan), Annie Trimble (Pittsburgh), Hannah Standiford (Pittsburgh), Sam D'Agostino (DC), and Peter Stevenson (Wales), alongside a wide range of regional and WV-based performers.
